One of Those Weeks

Last week was just one of those weeks. It was full of injuries, tantrums, crying, and pretty much everyone being hurt except Mark.

The week actually was good up until Wednesday. It started off with an incredibly busy day. One of my friend's had her baby 5 1/2 weeks early. Mark wanted to go see Hancock since it was opening night. He was working so it was my job to go to the bank, the movie theater to buy tickets in advance, go to the hospital to see my friend, take the kids to our friend's house, and meet Mark at the movie theater.... on time. I was doing good until we left the hospital and headed for McDonald's. I didn't have time to run home, fix something for dinner, feed the kids, and run back out to take them to our friends' house who were going to watch them for us. Anna was so excited about getting a cheeseburger and sprite. We pulled in and I literally sat there debating whether or not taking both of them in by myself would end in disaster. For future reference I think I'll just always assume it will.

We got inside and it was packed. There was a long line and it didn't seem to be moving very fast. Anna was actually doing well with the waiting until she spotted a french fry on the floor.... and darted for it. I said "Anna, no. That's yucky." She then began running through the restaurant half way screaming, half way laughing like a nut. I was running behind her, carrying Eli, and holding a purse and a diaper bag. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy at this point. And also needless to say, everyone was starring. I told her she had better stop it or we're leaving. She continued running and screaming until she reached a dead end, where she fell in the floor and began flailing about. I again instructed her to get up or she wasn't getting a cheeseburger. She obeyed, walked over to me, and when I reached to get her hand she fell in the floor again. By this point I had had it and said "That's it. No cheeseburger. Let's go." Insert hysterical crying here. She went limp and I literally had to drag her halfway to the van because she was so distraught about not getting a cheeseburger. The entire way to the van all I heard was "Cheeseburger!!! CHEESEBURGER!!!!!!! CHHHEEEEESSSEEEEEBUUURRRGEER!!! I sorry Mommy, I sorry! Cheeseburger." When we got to the van she lost it again and fell down in the parking lot crying. I put her in the van and she fell down in there crying. I was mad and embarrassed and all I could think about was that I was going to have to go back on my word because I had to feed them. I opted for the drive thru and had I not been so upset, I might have actually thought about getting her chicken nuggets instead of a cheeseburger. But I wasn't and so she got what she wanted anyway. Don't you hate days like these... or am I the only one who has them? Please tell me I'm not.

Thursday morning for breakfast I had given the kids grapes. Anna eats them whole. Eli has to have them cut up. The dryer wasn't working and I decided to work on it as they ate breakfast. I had just pulled it out and sat down behind it to work on it when I heard Eli start screaming. I jumped up, turned around, and saw Anna standing there with a knife. I immediately knew what had happened. I often forget how tall Anna is and that she can, for the mostpart, reach pretty much anything on the counters.... where I had left the knife I cut Eli's grapes with. In another attempt to be like her mommy, she was trying to be helpful and cut some more for Eli when everything just went wrong. Eli's poor left middle finger got cut and bled for over an hour. We took him to the doctor later that night after debating all day whether or not he needed stitches. Unbeknownst to me there's a 6 hr. window on lacerations. After that, they can't be stitched. Complete waste of $70. So, we've been taking the wound-care approach - keeping it clean and it seems to be healing just fine on it's own. Needless to say, I felt terrible. I spent the rest of the day feeling like I should be sporting a World's Worst Mom shirt. I know it was my fault and I'm certain I'll be more mindful in the future about what's on the counters.

About the 10th attempt at getting something to stay on his finger. This one only lasted about 5 minutes.

Shortly after that while I was on the phone with my mom, Anna decided to collapse the Jumperoo on Eli. Fortunately he thought it was funny. Me... not so much.

Later that afternoon I was going to the mailbox. Anna wanted to go with me, as she usually does. On her way down the steps, she tripped over her nightgown and fell down the stairs. Luckily her nightgown actually protected her legs and she came out alright - albeit a little scared.

Friday we were cooking lunch when I was draining noodles. Mark decided he'd turn the garbage disposal on and ended up throwing boiling water up in my face and on my stomach. As if that wasn't bad enough, later that evening while trying to hurry up and get to the fireworks show, Mark tripped in the garage and while trying to catch himself, reached for the glass door. How unfortunate for me that I happened to have my foot inbetween it and got my ankle slammed and cut in the doorway. Poor Anna saw it all and kept asking "Okay Mommy? You okay??" We ended up making it just on time for the fireworks - limping and all.

It hurt so much more than what it looks like.

Swollen

I'm praying for a better week this week. We're planning a small vacation with the fam and a large one for this fall - minus the kiddos. I'm looking forward to both of them and just getting away from it all.
